Trip Tips
CANAL TOUR
Take a canal tour, it’s a great way to explore and learn about the city from a different perspective whilst experiencing some awesome sites.
GO CHOCOLATE CRAZY
Feast on chocolate - there are dozens upon dozens of chocolate boutiques… a country famous for chocolate that you don't want to miss out on!
HOW TO GET AROUND
Use the metro, trams and buses to explore the city! You’ll find ticket vending machines in the metro and main tram or bus stations. If you only need a single-ride ticket, contactless payment is available. Look for the grey validator as you enter a station or a vehicle, tap your card or your smartphone, and you’re on your way.
SAVE YOUR CHANGE
Keep some change for the toilet… "Madame/Monsieur Pipi” as they are known locally, are a fixture of fast-food restaurants, stations, clubs, malls and even cinemas. They are the toilet attendants and hold the essential job of cleaning before and after you use the facilities.
SAMPLE LOCAL BEERS
Belgium is one of the biggest beer exporters in Europe but they have over 600 beers that are produced only for local consumption!
BRING YOUR GCSE FRENCH
The city of Brussels is officially bilingual (French/Dutch), but French is the most widely spoken language and English is understood and spoken much more readily than in Paris for example.
